Horse Painting in Oils – Remy's Portrait
This magnificent oil painting of Remy was traditionally hand-painted by Nicholas Beall in his rural UK art studio. Commissioned by returning client **Marianne** in Canada, this is the fourth portrait in her collection. Nicholas works from clients' own photos to create bespoke equine artwork. About the Commission of Remy
Marianne, based in Canada, returned to commission a fourth oil painting of her stunning horses. Remy was beautifully photographed without a halter, and Nicholas initially painted the portrait using that reference. Later, Marianne requested a decorative halter be added to match her other portraits. As luck would have it, she had another photo from a similar angle – the perfect solution for a seamless adjustment.
The portrait was painted in oils at 18 x 14 inches on Italian Linen canvas. If you’re considering commissioning a portrait, high-quality reference photos make a tremendous difference. Marianne’s images were exceptional and made this painting a joy to create.

Client Testimonial – Marianne
“What a busy season we've had. I finally had some time to go through emails and realized I hadn’t yet let you know that the painting arrived – and it's beautiful. It’s really a very real portrait of Remy – it looks just like him. Thank you both again for doing such a great job.”

Artistic Flexibility in Portrait Commissions
Clients often request small changes during the process – whether it’s adding a halter or adjusting the background. When the reference materials allow for it, Nicholas is always happy to accommodate. Below you can see the version without the halter, alongside the final updated portrait.
