About the Commission of Lockhart
Erin Galasterer from the USA contacted Nicholas in 2012 to commission a full body oil portrait of her stunning horse, Lockhart. She had very specific requirements and opted for a large 36 x 28 inch canvas to ensure plenty of detail could be captured.
Erin wanted a clean, studio-style background to highlight Lockhart without distraction. She shared a few examples of traditional horse paintings to help convey her vision, and even had professional photos taken especially for the commission.
The chosen photo was ideal for a side-on pose, and Nicholas was thrilled to work on the piece.
