Commission Information

If you are looking to commission a painting or drawing of your pet or family member, this page gives a quick run down of the process. For a more in depth look at how a commission works from start to finish, have a look at our 'how it works' page. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email us at any time.

Choosing your photos

The first thing to do is take or find a few photos of your pet that capture your pets personality and character well. Photos are hugely important in the process and so you must choose your photos wisely.

Our expertise lie in reproducing and interpreting your photo and establishing the characteristics and personality of individual animals.

The portraits we produce are unique paintings or drawings of 'your pet' - not just any pet, so photos are key. If you need any pet photography tips, have a read of our pet photography page.

Contact Us
comission information

The next step is to email, telephone or write to us, sending any photos you have and letting us know a little about your requirements. You can email your photos or upload them via our online form or mail them to us on cd / prints. Please contact us for our studio address if you would like to send us photos via the mail.

All photos are returned along with the finished portrait, or if photos are sent for our approval and we are unable to work with them, they will always be returned free of charge. If you are sending any treasured photos in the postal system, please do take copies of them for peace of mind when sending through the mail.

Nick and I can be contacted at any time and if you have emailed and you have not received a reply within 24 to 48 hours please do email again, just in case your email did not arrive. We always like to cover any eventuality : )

Mock-ups & Choosing the Right Medium for You

Once we have received your photos and you have given us an idea of the kind of portrait you are looking to commission, we create you a mock-up of how your portrait could look. As shown in the example on the right, we use computer software to change backgrounds and generally design the kind of portrait you envisage. This image will then be used as reference when we paint your portrait. This often helps clients to know exactly what their portrait will look like before ordering.

If you would like to read more about the differences between the mediums, please read our Medium Guide for more information.

We accept all major credit and debit cards and paypal online. Alternatively you can telephone us with your credit or debit card details and we can take your order at any time. If you are unsure of which portrait to order, but you would like to secure a place in our waiting list (viewed on the right hand side of our Portraits in Progress blog), then simply make a deposit and we can discuss your needs in the knowledge that your slot is safe.

Your Portraits Progress
pet portraits in progress

Once Nick or myself have started a portrait, clients are able to view the progress on our Portraits in Progress Blog.

Our portraits in progress blog can be viewed at all times from our top navigation and we usually email clients a link to the blog when we have added their first stage. Usually clients are so excited they have been visiting our blog daily over the weeks to see what we have been painting. We always show our list of clients on the right hand side of the blog and this allows clients can see their portrait rise in the list.

Stages are then uploaded for clients to see and I quite often take photos of Nicks hand working on the portrait and vice versa so that you can actually see us working on each piece. This gives a good impression of how we create the paintings too. Clients love being part of the process and can comment on our blog at any time. In fact we love hearing from you!

Traditional Painting Methods

Both Nick and myself have completed all of the paintings and drawings you see on this website.

None of our work is mass produced or sent to another country to be painted. We always sign our paintings! We paint in the traditional manor with brush and canvas or pencil and paper.

None of the work you see is digitally produced. If you would like to read more about our working process you can visit our Portrait Guide.

Portraits Final Scan
final scan

To ensure that every client is 100% happy with their portrait before it's shipped, we provide a high resolution watermarked version for clients approval.

We either scan or photograph each painting or drawing depending on its size and email it to the client, we also upload the final version and details of the portrait onto our portraits in progress blog.

Any amendments or alterations that need to be made can be done at this stage before the portrait is framed and sent.

This process ensures that the client is 100% happy with their portrait before it leaves our studio. In fact clients tell us that they are even more delighted when they receive the original portrait, as it looks even better in the flesh.

Packaging & Delivery

All of our portraits are sent flat packed and are protected with strong packaging to avoid damage through the mail. For a more detailed look at how we package our portraits, along with information on our delivery services, please read our 'how it works' page.
