Pet Portrait Painting Information

Pete (UK) contacted me in 2007 to see if I would be able to paint their rabbit in oils on canvas size 12 x 10 for his wife. Both Nick and myself are able to paint all animals, we were traditionally trained in Natural History illustration and so can paint anything from a mouse to an elephant! I was delighted to paint Abigail. I have added a few photos of Abigail below, along with stages of the portrait, a final scan, a detail of the painting and a lovely testimonial from both Pete and Juliet when they received the painting. It was an oils on linen canvas 16 x 12 size. I hope you enjoy this page of information and if you would like to commission us to paint your pet don't hesitate to email us at any time.

The Pet Portrait Painting in Progress....

Photos are taken during the progress of the portrait in our studio. The lighting can change throughout the day which can account for colour differences between each stage.

Client Pet Portraits Reference Photos
The photos depicted below may vary in colour to the finished painting above. This can be due to the scanned oil painting being slightly different to the original or often clients give us more than one photo to work from i.e. one for the pose and another for colouring.

Client Testimonial

Dear Melanie, Have just looked on your site we were both delighted to see all six stages of the painting of Abigail. You are truly a worker of miracles, as the depiction of her coat and the shape of her face are absolutely spot on! Pete
---------------------------------
Dear Melanie, Abigail has just arrived. We lost her just over 8 months ago and to be honest, I have had great difficulty in coming to terms with this, as I am sure you understand.

The portrait you have done for me is totally incredible and almost beyond words. I feel that she has found a way of coming back to keep an eye over us. I never really appreciated how moving a painting of a loved one can be - I have no idea how you have managed to capture her not only in looks, but also in character and spirit. We are so lucky to have found you and your talent.

I am having difficulty moving away from the picture at the moment to get on with my day! I can't thank you enough for what you have done for me. I don't know if Pete mentioned.....we have two more bunnies......!

Thank you so much, warmest wishes,

Juliet Long
