Why should I choose you to paint my pet portrait painting?
If you are thinking of purchasing a pet portrait painting in any medium, the old saying 'you get what you pay for' is often a good adage. Clients sometimes email telling me that they getting quotes from a variety of artists and whats the best price can i paint their pet for. This isn't usually the correct way of commissioning an artist. There are a variety of questions you should ask yourself about each artist you look at, and there are many pet portrait artists to choose from.

For instance view their website, does it look professional and trustworthy? Look at the quality of their artwork - do the paintings look like generic animals or does each painting look like the owners dog or cat, hold the character and personality of that animal? This is extremely important - there are hundreds of pet portrait artists who can paint 'a dog' and 'a cat', but far fewer artists who can paint 'your dog' and 'your cat'. What about their customer service, do they respond to your email in a timely manner? Do they sound professional and polite? Are they busy? If they aren't busy ask yourself why? If a restaurant was continually empty, would you choose eat there or would you find out first if the food was good? All of these points must come before the pricing as you do get what you pay for, if you purchase a painting based on 'it was cheap' you could find yourself with a cheap looking portrait on your wall.

"Cody" Labrador in Oils On Canvas UK 20 x 16
Kelly Williams contacted me to paint cody, and emailed me a selection of photos. The one that really stood out for me was one taken at Christmas when he had a beautiful red and cream velvet collar on. The colours of his coat and the collar stood out so well, and the 'look' of Cody really captured my heart. I decided to add a dark olivey colour to the background as i felt this would recede and give depth to bring out the tones of Codys coat."...... I'm just speechless. He is beyond stunning. Just brilliant! It's like he's just sitting in the room with me. He's just beautiful Melanie - as beautiful as he was in real life - I could not be happier!! I'm just so thrilled to be able to have this wonderful memory of him to carry with me always. It's just so very special.....I can't thank you enough!! Kelly" Click on each thumbnail to view a larger version and detail.

"Cadbury" Chocolate Lab Oils On Canvas 24 x 18
Deborah Risbridger emailed me a beautiful photo of Cadbury, a chocolate labrador puppy, as she wanted a portrait of her friends dog for their wedding present an this is the results. Debbie told me the couple had a very modern house, so it needed to fit in well with their décor. I decided to keep a modern feel by almost painting the entire portrait in a limited pallet. This means that I would only be using the colours of the dog and the same tones and hues in the background. Click on each thumbnail to view a larger version and detail.
