Competition Results 2008

Welcome to the Entries for the Pet Portrait and Wildlife Competition 2008. The Entries have all now been sent to Pollyanna Pickering and I will announce the First and second prize winners here within the next few days. I wish everyone the best of luck.

Please note that there is no preference as to how the entries have been laid out on the page. Each entry was allocated a number at the start and placed into a spread sheet. The landscape entries are at the top, the portrait entries are below and are numbered in accordance with the spreadsheet. This is so that I can be sure as to how belongs to each entry along with the details and descriptions of their piece.

Pollyanna Pickering has now chosen the winners of the 2008 pet portrait and wildlife art competition. I have copied and pasted her exact words form the email below.
"It was a very difficult, but very enjoyable task choosing the winners in this art competition - I was very pleasantly surprised at the very high  standard of all the entries, and it was wonderful to see so many very different styles and interpretation of the given subjects - although of course trying to judge such a variety of work is always hard!  It was very interesting to see the ways in which the original photograph inspired all the artists who entered."

First Prize - Entry No. 5
"I loved the placing of the tigers in the Siberian landscape - it brought back memories of my journey to the Russian Far East to sketch the Amur Tigers a couple of years ago.  I love the subtle colours of the birch trees against the snow, and the softness of the background, which places the tigers in their Russian home, but still makes them the main focus of the painting.  the tigers are also very accurately depicted!"

Second Prize - Entry No 8
"I was impressed by the graphic quality of the landscape and mountains, and the choice of colours complimenting the tigers' fur."

I would also like to give 'Highly Commended" mentions to two others who came extremely close to making the final selection -
Entry No 2
"the tiger really looks as though it is within the landscape, and again the mountains and setting are beautifully painted." - and
Entry No 17
"This is a really different, imaginative and well thought out interpretation of the brief, and a very pleasing image.  It looks like the cover for a book!"

Please do pass on our congratulations to the winners, and everyone who entered.

Pollyanna Pickering
