About China 'Morning Light'
At the time of the dawn chorus, when only the sunshine and birds should be up and awake the fairies are too. This painting depicts China, a very feminine fairy, who gracefully sits on some brambles as the sun rises on a late summers morning. I wanted her dress to emulate the warmth of the sunshine and her wings to be a mixture of warmth but also cooler colours as the weather is gradually getting colder as the weeks move along. This is also cleverly shown in the way China has her toes on the blackberry. Blackberries are warm and succulent, but are slightly prickly too, reminding her that the cooler weather is on its way soon.
