Pet Portraits by Breed
If you would like to search through my pet portraits by breed this is a great section for you to browse through. I am trying to collate a lot of my artwork into breed categories and its an ongoing process as it does take a while to get together all of my previous works, along with the newer pieces into various breed pages. More will be added throughout the year so keep checking back. If you don't see your breed of dog here do email me to see if i have painted your breed. If i haven't then yours could be the first in this section!
Many customers look on the internet and in galleries for paintings of their specific breed and try to commission artists who have painted them before. It can be helpful if the artist has some experience with various breeds however it isn't essential. If the artists is professional, well trained and experienced they should be able to paint any animal without too many problems. Once an artist is confident with the mediums they are using and are experienced in painting and drawing, the challenge for them shouldn't be the subject matter. It should be more about how they create the portrait, if they can capture the essence of the subject matter and whether they can put life into what they are painting.
When training at art college we were set many tasks and a broad range of subject and we painted everything from delicate wild flowers to large african elephants, however the aim of every price we produced was to learn about how to use the mediums we were working with, how we could bring the animal to life on the canvas with our brushes, and learn how to create a realistic and lifelike paintings or drawings. Once you have mastered these things, then you can paint any subject and any breed.
