People & Pets Portraits

This is Nicks latest portrait to come off the easel and I’m hoping to take it to the framer this week. It will be framed in a honey coloured frame – which is a coincidence as the dog is called Honey! This is a 12 x 10 portrait for a client who has had a few portraits done by us, including a dedicated portrait of honey in pastel.

This portrait is for a returning customer, I completed a portrait of Rhodes last year in oils and also a pencil drawing of their family’s dearly departed Newfoundland. This portrait will be sent over seas to Australia next week and I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like hanging on their walls in a slightly warmer climate than the UK!

This is Nicks latest portrait to come off the easel, its a pencil portrait of a little boy that was commissioned last year, for a deadline in February. We hope that it is a lovely surprise for the recipient. Its a graphite pencil portraits at 16 x 12 on Italian Fabriano paper and it will be mounted and sent hopefully this week. The snow has subsided a little and we have finally had the gritter through so we hope to be out and about tomorrow! Hope you are all ok where you are and keeping warm!

Here is my last portrait for 2009! The client came to collect it this evening and so we are now officially stopped work for Christmas. We have a few freinds to see and cards to deliver these next two days but Christmas eve onwards we are staying home in the cottage to enjoy the festivities. We have both worked pretty hard this year and so are definitely not working over Christmas. We have done in the past and I know that Melanie has done a lot of web work over Christmas for as many years as I can remember but not this year! A real rest awaits. We have taken some great photos of the lights on the cottage, the tree and the snow so im sure there will be one more blog post before the year is complete.

This is the wedding portrait that has been in in progress last week and the clients love the portrait so it will be sent off to them tomorrow. The postal disruptions haven’t really effected us as yet, we had to send one of our portraits using parcel force 24 as Special delivery was effected in the previous disruptions however I think that most priority mail is getting through now which is good news for us. It hasn’t seem to effected any portraits going overseas which is good too.

I have been working on the horses and hopefully will take a photo to blog tomorrow morning as its dark here so id like to take one in daylight. I am working on the left hand horse, ‘Resplendent Light’ at the moment.

This is a portrait I have recently completed for a client to the size of 10 x 8 required for the 25th of October. I hope that it is a good surprise for the recipient.

This is my latest portrait that just this morning came off my easel, we are completing two portraits for this client, I have drawn the clients parents in pencil for a 40th wedding anniversary, from one of their favourite photos of them and Melanie is drawing the clients own dog called Charlie Brown also in pencil.  Melanie has nearly completed her portrait and I believe will be blogging it soon too. I am working on a pastel later today and will have some stages to show soon.

This is my latest people portrait, the size is 16 x 12 which is my most common size for a double head study. This portrait was commisioned by the client as a gift and the scan below has been given the “all clear” with no revisions needed.

This is a pencil portrait of two twins called Megan and Rhys. This was a 16 x 12 portrait in pencil on Italian Fabriano paper. It can take a long time to get these small portraits of people “just right”. There is such a fine line between captureing the  persons character, and there being something not quite right, particularly tricky when you have only one or two photos to work from. Thats not to say I don’t enjoy doing them, I love the challenge.  The clients are local to us and this is for a birthday in a couple of days time. They are collecting the portrait later today and are very pleased with the outcome. One that definitely needs to go on the website!

Hi All,

This is a final scan of a family portrait I have just completed today. Its a 16 x 12 graphite pencil portrait on Italian Fabriano paper. I am now about to start a 4 head study portrait of some gorgeous cats and I will be adding work in progress stages as I go.
