Cat Portraits

This is Nicks latest Cat Portrait that he has been working on this week. He has created a wonderful ethereal quality in the background as Rikki the cat was sitting on a windowsill with light all around him. Pastel was the perfect medium to capture the softness and light, and also blend the edges of the cat seamlessly into the background giving a realistic quality.

These are the final photos of Nicks double cat portrait in pastel. I am so pleased with the way this portrait has come out, everyone has been commenting on it who visit the studio and its definitely one for the website. We will be getting it framed next week so I will add photos when its ready. Its going to have a large cream mount and a chrome / silver frame.

This is Nicks second portrait of Tom the cat in pastel (scroll down to see the previous portrait of him) and hopefully they will both be sent to the client before the weekend. As mentioned previously poor Tom had a skin condition and so didn’t have any fur around his nose and mouth. These portraits will serve as a wonderful reminder of Toms for his family.

This is the first portrait in a series of two of a lovely cat called Tom. He had a skin condition and I’m not sure if you can see from the portrait but his fur is missing around his nose and face. Nick is just about to start the second portrait of Tom, another full body but this one is in a studio style background. Both portraits are 16 x 12 in pastel and we are really looking forward to seeing them framed and hung on the wall as I think they will look great together. They are for a special date 12th of July so I will have a final scan of the next portrait by around Wednesday.

This is Nicks latest portrait to come off the easel and it will be taken to the framers next week. Its going to have a lovely gold frame to bring out the rich tones in the long coat. This portrait has actually reminded us of our old cat Ammy, the same long fur and very similar markings. Ill take some photos for the blog when its framed!

These are the final stages of Rox and Rio. I have really enjoyed creating this portrait and I hope the client is pleased too, Melanie will email it to them this morning. I have a pencil portrait to do next for a local client who visited the cottage on Sunday, they would like a 12 x 10 drawing completed for their parents so I will blog that in a few days time.

Heres the next stage of Rox and Rio, they are coming along well and I will add another stage tomorrow.

Here are the first two stages of the portrait of Rox and Rio. The colours are slightly different on my easel, Melanie will scan the final image when its complete to get a closer match. The sun is shining into the studio today though, which is good for photographing, the weather is very cold and we had a frost last night, but the blue sky is certainly more favourable than the rain we had been having. We are hoping it stays like this for a while, although a white Christmas would be nice. Will add the next stage of the portrait tomorrow – off now to put the Christmas lights up on the front of the cottage.

This is my latest portrait to come off my easel. Its of two cats who actually look quite similar called Nuggett and Donut, part Norwegian Forest cats. This is for a previous client from Cyprus who ordered a portrait of their familys Salukie last year. We hope to have some time off this weekend, but I will be back to my easel and blogging my next portrait soon.

This is a portrait I have created for a US client and sadly ‘Furball’ has passed, however this will hopefully be a great reminder for them. The client wanted it to be a surprise for her husband and so this was one of the only photos she had of their cat, I think hes in the process of licking his fur : ) She wanted him to be portrayed outside in grass and flowers, opposed to the photo next to the owners computer, so I added a grassy background which creates movement and interest within the piece. Fingers crossed the portrait now arrives safely and on time.
