Painting Creations

This is my latest portrait to come off the easel. I’m really pleased with how this one came out and it has a lovely light feel to it. Nick took a photo of my hand working on the portrait and I also took some promotional photos with my pencils on the portrait so that I could use them on our website. I have made a page about our three different mediums – pastel, pencil and oils and chose this portrait to show as an example of a pencil drawing. You can see the new page I have created in the commissioning info section – portrait styles.

Nick has started the lovely cat portrait in pastel which I hope to blog soon, the Dalmatian has gone to the framers so ill take photos and blog that as soon as it arrives back  and im about to start a new pencil montage of a flat coated retriever.

Here is the final scan and stages of Nicks latest horse oil portrait. I really love this one, if you look at the detail of the nose it looks so real and three dimensional, as if you could touch it. I hope that you like it as much as I do. It will be left to dry in our studio for a few days before we can send it to the client. He’s currently back working on the pastel montage and I will hopefully have the next stage of this soon.

Here’s the final scan of Sophie the cat and it will be sent hopefully on Thursday as the edges of the canvas as still a little tacky. I also have to sign the portrait – the most important part. Sophie the cat has travelled a lot in her life but she is now in retirement and I hope that her family enjoy the portrait.

Here at last are the final photos of the cats portraits in oils. I am going to take better photos of them outside on Sunday as its overcast and rainy here. We have had wonderful weather for the last 4 weeks and now we are going through a bit of rain, but we do need it for the garden I have to say. I hope that you like the process and stages, I had to make a decision whether to put them as separate files or together and I felt as they are supposed to be together hanging on the wall their flash slide show should be too. I’m sure you can still get the gist of the stages.

This portrait has been on and off my easel for a while. The client commissioned me back in January and requested it for a specific deadline – March 8th for her husbands birthday.  This is the painting creation – all the stages and the final scan along with some details of the painting. The portrait is a 16 x 12 oil on linen of a dearly departed dog called Ted. Hope you like it!

This is my latest painting to come off the easel, it is a large painting at size 18 x 24 in oils on Linen of a lovely dog who has sadly passed away called Samantha. The painting has taken a good few weeks on and off to paint, with some drying stages in between. For me the eyes were the best part to paint on this as they are so loving, she has a very kind and happy feel to her face. She will hopefully be packed up and sent early next week, she’s off to the US and I am looking forward to seeing how the client frames the painting.

This is the final scan of the portrait of Duncan and Wilson, the two Italian Spinones, which will now be wending its way off to the USA so the client can present it to his wife on Valentines day. What a wonderful gift to receive. The painting of Duncan and Wilson shows the special bond they had between them and I think gives a beautiful, contented feeling which often simple head portraits don’t give. This is more of a painting than a portrait and it was a very special one to paint and  I know that this painting will be cherished for a very long time.

A quick note about valentines day, if there are clients who are trying to think of what to give as a gift and might like to give a painting or a portrait, we do offer valentine gift vouchers to make their day special. Just drop us a line to find out more.
