Here is the next stage of Sable, I was meant to post this yesterday but I ran out of time, so here it is! Another stage will hopefully be posted today, and we are off to the framers to pick up Tangos portrait so ill have a photo of that later too : ) I’m still working on the 4 Jack Russell portrait so I will hopefully have photos in a few days time.

The fur looks really nice and soft, I’m looking forward to watching this portrait develop more. I’m painting 2 salukis at the moment so I’m interested in how Nick will paint the white fur.
I really wish I could paint grass better, you two make it look so easy and subtle, but I find it so difficult! I think it’s clever how your grass isn’t a typical green, because the bright ‘emerald’ colour of grass really takes attention away from the subject, if you know what I mean…whereas yours lets the focus stay on the subject.

Good luck with your Salukis, they are beautiful dogs aren’t they! Nick is working from two photos, one photo of Sable in grass but another of Sable in grass with more muted tones and thats the one he is working off mainly for colour. It has to go with the light and feel of the day the photo was taken and work with the dog too. This is an almost cool silvery light, quite wintry but Nick has warmed it up a little : ) Glad you like it! Melanie x
