Here are the first three stages of Lucy’s portrait, which is a 20 x 16 oil painting on linen canvas. Nick will be working more on it today so I will have more stages soon. I think this is another painting which has an overall tranquillity to it, using light colours and with lots of light coming into the scene.

It is a beautiful sunny day today, lets hope its sunny tomorrow for the Royal Wedding. The UK are having 4 public holidays here for the occasion combining the mayday bank holiday that we have each year. Nick and I will take the weekend off but will be working the Friday and the Monday. I am still sanding our stairs bringing them back to the lovely old wood similar to the studio, it is taking a long time, so perhaps we will get finished over the weekend.

Here is the final scan of Groucho! He was dry enough to scan this morning and im about to email it to the cleint for them to view in high resolution.

I have also added a ‘follow this blog’ widget (if you scroll right down on the right hand side) for those who have a facebook account. You can follow our blog via facebook and also read updates on there and view our portraits too!

As promised here are some of Groucho’s stages all together. Nick has been working hard all day today and he has completed the portrait so there is one more stage to this. The painting is here in the drying rack and will be dry enough to scan tomorrow, so I will blog it asap : )

Lucy is on the easel now and coming along well, Nick will be starting back on the portrait tomorrow and I will blog some stages of her too!

The accounts are now complete and I am thrilled that I managed to balance them this year without any help from my mathematical mum! Sadly I did not inherit my mums mathematical genes, but I get by. I always maintain that you can’t be a mathematician and have an artistic side at the same time! I had meant to have the accounts completed by February but its been so busy here that they got a bit delayed so the accountant will now be happy that they are complete. I think a late new year’s resolution should be to balance them monthly….

I have also taken some photos of Tristan’s portrait below now its framed, its come out really well and our framer has used a wide cream textured mount / matt and a larger frame on this one to work with the composition of the portrait. The client ordered a 14 x 12 portrait but the overall size is now 16 x 18 so I think the recipient will be thrilled. I have added it to the gallery on the website too – Black Curved Frame.

Nick has nearly finished Groucho’s portrait and has Lucy’s portrait underway (the lovely Bichon Frise on the sofa). Im a bit behind on the blog with putting up the stages but ill try to catch up! I think I might add all of Groucho’s stages at once and then start with Lucy’s separately so that it doesn’t get too confusing.

Its another public holiday here today but we are working, we had a really relaxing weekend though and couldn’t have asked for better weather. Tom did so well on his walk, we went with Meg and friends in the forestry and of course met quite a few other dogs on and off the lead. We trotted on by without stopping for each dog and he did so well. We then sat in the beer garden in the little village pub for a drink in the sunshine and there were at least 5 other dogs in close proximity all laying under the picnic tables. Again Tom did so well we are really pleased. It would probably have been different if they were all running around and barking but because everyone was relaxed it was perfect environment for him to experience. The more positive experiences like that the better. A good excuse to sit and relax in the beer garden on a summers evening I think…….

Its a bank holiday weekend here in the UK for Easter so in general the majority of people here have Friday to Monday off. We are working today though (Friday), doing a bit of overtime – never hurts when you are running your own business to keep up with things and we plan to have the weekend off with friends.

We have been busy here in the studio, Nicks been painting and we have quite a few portraits in starting stages here and I have been working on the accounts, not doing too bad with them. Nick has been working on a portrait over the last week or so in between other portraits and its now complete. Its a 10 x 8 portrait of Dougal for a birthday in May and the outcome is below.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend and I will blog some photos of Groucho’s portrait and the framed portrait of Tristan asap!

Today is another beautiful sunny day without a cloud in the sky. Was up early this morning and have cleaned and moved the chicken house so they are happy and I have also been clearing the pond of duck weed. I started yesterday and I think I am nearly getting there with it. Once you get duck weed its terrible to get rid of and the only way is to skim / remove every last piece. The problem is it can multiply so fast, you can almost watch it grow! It is all around the lilies in the pond so its been tricky. Tom has been having a whale of a time though while I have been wading into the pond with the hose pipe, he’s been trying to chase the water. Its only a very small nature pond so im hoping we will win the battle.

We also have moved our garden shed this week too. Our neighbour helped which was fantastic and we had it moved in an afternoon. Due to buying the small area of woodland last year, the shed, which once was at the side of the garden was living in no man’s land : ) So its now in a much better place next tot he wood shed. Its so tidy though its unbelievable. And Nick will never find anything in it!!

Over to work news now and here is the portrait of Tristan and im hopefully going to take it to the framers today all being well. Its nearly lunch time here and we have been eating on the picnic table in the garden so I’m off to prepare some lunch – heaven. If only it could stay like this all summer! Hope you all have a sunny day too!

This is going to be quite a long post image wise as I have scanned the oil portrait of the five cats in to the PC and added each one separately below along with the full portrait. We are really pleased with how this portrait has come out. Its been a long time on the easel due to the amount of detail in each cat and the size of the portrait, but it was well worth all the hard work and effort.

One of my next jobs – and I keep saying this but I have a list as long as my arm for jobs at the moment including the dreaded accounts, but I need to overhaul the cat website and bring it in line with our main site. I know this is going to be a while yet so I have added the painting to our main website which you cn see on the page - Five Cats in Oils Portrait

I hope you enjoy viewing this portrait and I will be adding the pencil of Tristan next!

I hope you all had a great weekend, we took the whole weekend off as the weather is so lovely and warm at the moment. Its doing wonders for the salad and veg which are starting to come up. Have some more seeds to sow which I need to get going with. We always try to take advantage of the good weather here as we don’t get many months of sun in Wales. So we visited a variety of friends over the weekend including Meg’s family – Toms girlfriend : ) and then had a bbq with them. All very relaxing.

Back to work today and Im just completing Tristan’s portrait which I will blog soon. I will also have a final scan of the cats as well, here is the final photo before I scan the painting. Nick has signed the painting but just needs to check a few final details.

Here is Nick working on the 5 cat portrait, I have just taken this photo about 10 minutes ago so it is the latest stage.  I’m just about to pack up Ellen and Dotties painting, I have just packed up Stellas portrait and we will be off to the post office soon to mail them on their way to the US.

We have just had the portrait of Ellen and Dotty from the framers and I have taken some photos of it today for the website and blog. I have been updating the website over the last few days getting it in tip top condition and so Ellen is now on a new frame page for ‘Subtle Bronze‘ frame and I have also added the framed portraits on Ellen’s Gallery page too.

Nick has come a little further with the 5 cat portrait and I will take a photo and blog it tomorrow.
