PET PORTRAITS

Artwork by Nicholas Beall & Melanie Phillips

Archive for March, 2011

Nick has been working on this portrait over the last few weeks on and off as it has needed quite a few drying stages in between the glazes on the lady’s face to capture the soft skin tones. It is finally complete and I have added it into the pet and family portraits gallery – Ellen and Dottie’s portrait. I have actually had a bit of an overhaul in the pet and people gallery tidied it up a bit, added a couple of portraits that Nick did before xmas and also updated the main gallery page with Ellen and Dottie’s portrait too. It will now be sent to the framers so we will add a photo of it framed here as soon as I collect it.

Here is the final scan of Breeze, a 10 x 8 portrait in graphite pencil, which I have completed for a client to give as a birthday present in the next couple of weeks. The client will frame the portrait at their own local framer so im looking forward to seeing what it looks like when framed.

Here is Indie framed, a portrait that we did a while ago. The client wanted the portrait so that it could stand on the recipients desk and it has worked a treat. The moulding is great and it stands beautifully as you can see from the photo below. I have added Indie to our framing gallery so you can view a couple more photos there too.

I have now taken the photos of the stunning oil portrait Nick completed a few weeks ago, our framer did a super job with the frame and the colours really go well, particularly with Missy the horse in the middle. I’m not sure if I’m sending this one in the post or if the family are going to collect the portrait, but we have ordered some new packing supplies as I’m running short which should be here in a few days time, so it will be ready for the off when ever way. I have added the photos of the framed portrait on the horses gallery page and the framing gallery page too.

I have also nearly completed a pencil portrait of a beautiful German Shepherd which I will hopefully post tomorrow and Nick has started quite a few portraits here in the last few days so I will start posting those soon too.

We have also been listed on Cats Chaos and Confusion website which we are really pleased about, and you can see Nicks portrait of Soda here – Cat products

I have taken some photos of Ebony and the three prints, they have come out really well, the company we use in South Wales provide a high quality service and it really shows in their products. I will be packing the portrait and the prints up today and hopefully they will be sent to the cleint next week. I have also added some photos on our Prints of your Portrait page too.

Toms News
Well lots has happened with Tom since I posted on here last. We decided that the training we were taking him to every Saturday wasn’t working for us any longer. We had been going 7 months and although he did well at the obedience and enjoyed the agility, we just weren’t getting anywhere with the barking at the other dogs. After a couple of weeks break from training we decided to call in a behaviourist.

So we found a lovely behaviourist in Exeter (Devon) who came all the way to Wales yesterday to see Tom and bring two of his Rottweilers that he uses as stooge dogs to work with Tom. The 5 hour session went great, we have learnt an awful lot about Tom, the things we need to do to help him get through this – plus some of his other issues too. Also things we need to do in the home that perhaps weren’t helping either. We are working to an action plan and next week we will travel to Exeter to a very busy area where Tom can experience other dogs, kids on bikes and skateboards, other dog walkers and general traffic.

We feel so much more confident now and are on the path hopefully to success. We want to be able to walk Tom out and about and not have to worry when another dog walks by, that’s our main aim…maybe next year we can even take him on holiday : ) I will keep everyone updated with his progress and I will also update Toms page next week.

Here is the final scan of Chance, the 8 x 6 inches collie drawing. My framer is in the process of making the frame as we speak.

It has been a hugely busy day for us today, pretty exciting, we had a behaviourist visit us all the way from Exeter in Devon, to help us with Toms issues, including him barking at other dogs. I will post more about what happened tomorrow.

Here is the framed portrait of the four dogs : )  We are thrilled with the frame, the moulding colour really brings out the coat colours in the dogs beautifully and the background colours feel very natural and go well with the sepia orange tones too. I have added the portrait into the pet portrait framing section of the website and on the 4 dog portrait gallery page.

Jane our framer has been fantastic over the passed few weeks, we have had lots of frames for her to make on short deadlines, particularly this one, so thank you Jane : )

The prints have arrived of Ebony, the horse Nick painted a while ago, so I will post photos of them asap. The three horse portrait has also been framed and I will also take photos of that too, it looks stunning : )  So lots of posts to follow asap….

Here is Indys portrait, a beautiful dog, a fantastic photo to work from and Nick really enjopyed painting him. This is for a birthday surprise in May, our client has commissioned us from Canada and it will be sent in good time for the birthday.  The oil portrait will be now framed along with a backing strut as its hopfully going to be displayed on the recipients office desk. I will take photos once it has been framed.

Here is the collie portrait in a landscape framed and its simply stunning. We are thrilled with the way this portrait looks now it is framed in the honey knots frame which is hand finished by our framer and its just perfect. Definitely a moulding that we will be using a lot of from now on. I have added it to the framing section of the website and Collie in a Landscape page in the gallery too.

Nick is just in the finishing stages of Indy’s portrait. He started Indy during the 4 dog portraits in a stage where it needed to dry a little and has now gone back to it in the last couple of days.  He chose to paint Indy next as it is for a deadline in May and although the 5 cats are next, that was too large and complicated to start in between the 4 dogs painting. Sadly we don’t have any stages for it but I will scan and post it tomorrow. I will also scan and post the portrait of Chance which is finished too but I have been scanning oils and taking photos of framed portraits I haven’t had time yet today. Its near the end of the day here so it will be scanned tomorrow : )

Here is the final scan of the 4 dog portrait. Nick completed the final stages yesterday and it was dry enough for me to scan today. I hope to take it to the framers tomorrow, ready to send on Thursday. I have already added it to the website, the framed images will be on there soon too. www.pet-portraitartist.com/oils-larger/oil-dog-portrait.htm

I have also  photographed the framed collie portrait and ordered the courier for tomorrow on a 24hr service and it will be at its destination on time for the birthday surprise : ) I will blog that in a moment.
