PET PORTRAITS

Artwork by Nicholas Beall & Melanie Phillips

Archive for February, 2011

Here are some photos of the three horse oil painting of Gatsby, Missy and Moriarty. It is a large painting to the size of 30 x 20 and is painted in oils on linen canvas. The painting is far too big to scan and its been a pretty sunny day here on and off for most of the day, so I have taken some photos of the painting in the garden. They came out well and I have added some of the images and close ups below.

I have also added the portrait to our website. It will be off to the framers soon so I will add photos of the portrait framed when its complete.  Three Horse Portrait in Gallery >>

I have also been busy doing a website for a friend so I will add a link to his site when its online in a few days time. I look after a few websites, but haven’t taken any new ones on for quite a few years as we have been busy with the artwork, but I enjoy working on new ones every now and again when I have the time. I have overhauled it and fingers crossed it starts to do better in google for him soon.

Hope you have all had a good weekend!

Here is the next stage to the three horse portrait. We have been having problems photographing it in the studio with the light shining on the painting, so I will need to set it up with the photography lights or take it outside to get the final photo. Nick has nearly finished, he just has the reigns and the top of the middle horses head to do and a few bits and bobs and he will be complete.

We have been busy here these last few days I have been working on a website for a friend and hope to have it online by next week and then I will start drawing again which I’m really looking forward to. I have been doing so much computer work lately I am itching to get back to my easel. I have some lovely pencils to start so I cant wait now!

This is a portrait of three horses – Missy, Gatsby and Moriarty, for a client in the UK. Nick has been working on the painting for a week already and has started work again today, monday morning. The portrait is in oils and is faily large at 30 x 20 so that they all fit within the scene quite comfortably. I hope to have a new stage online tomorrow.

I have finally uploaded the changes to our website. It has taken me quite a few weeks to create the changes mainly as I wanted to renew all of the images on the website.  The structure of the site is exactly the same, it works well and its pretty sound in the way people navigate so that hasn’t changed. What has changed, is I have updated all of the thumbnails in the oil, family and pencil galleries, all of the images on the larger pages, along with adding new images for work in progress, reference photos and framed portraits. All of the testimonials images are renewed and updated and the whole of the framing section images are updated too. To give you some idea of the work that has gone into it,  in the oil section alone I made 190 new jpeg images of framed photos, work in progress images and reference photos. Phew!

I still have a bit of work left, mainly behind the scenes things, but that will be ongoing perhaps an hour a day over the coming weeks and months. Plus we have the cat, dog and horse sites to bring in line with our main site, but there are only so many hours in a day and there’s only so long you can sit infront of a computer and keep sane! Plus I am now going to take some time to catch up with client emails as we have a few people in the process of ordering and who have ordered and they need to be added to the blog.

Finally last, but no means least, the photo below was sent by a very happy client Nicole who recently commissioned Nick to paint her beautiful cat called Soda. This is Soda with her portrait, Nicole very kindly took some photos of Soda with her portrait and we cant thank her enough. I have added this photo in both the testimonials page and Sodas oil portrait page. I hope you all enjoy looking around the newly updated site!

What a week! Its been VERY busy here, we have been working very long hours, Nick has been painting the triple horse portrait and I have been working solidly on our website and finally its all complete! Off to dog training today so I will hopefully upload the changes tomorrow and then post Nicks stages of his portrait on Monday.

Below is the oil portrait of Ebony and its nearly dry to send to the client, just need to order a few prints and it will all be complete. The client will be framing it herself in an antique frame so we are really looking forward to seeing the final images in the coming weeks.

Today has been hugely busy for Both Nick and myself. I am still working really hard on updating the website, currently going through our larger gallery pages which takes an age! Nick has started the three horse portrait which is looking fantastic already.  The canvas we had been waiting for arrived at twenty to 9 this morning, luciky we had just got back from walking Tom over the fields and so this enabled Nick to get started first thing. The poor delivery guy was cold, he was wishing he could have heated socks : ) It has been raining, sleeting and even snowing today, although nothing has settled, its just really cold and wet. The good news is the snowdrops have started to flower in the woods and we take that to be a good sign that warm weather is on its way.

Ebony’s portrait is complete and is still drying so I hope to scan the portrait tomorrow and blog it, I’ll then add stages of the three horse portrait.

We had a wonderful email from our client who has had his portrait framed and I think it looks fantastic! Neil emailed and I have added his quote below : )  Oh and Happy Valentines day too!

Hi Melanie,

Just to let you know that we are absolutely delighted with the portrait of Kim that you have done for us. It really captures her likeness and her personality. I have attached a couple of photo’s taken of the picture now we have had it framed, although the picture is not on the wall we have it hung on normally as there was to much light reflecting off it.

Once again thanks for an excellent portrait,

Best wishes, Neil

Here’s the next stage to Nicks portrait of Ebony, its looking really fantastic. He hopes to be finished by Sunday which will be great. Sadly the canvas for the triple horse portrait still hasn’t arrived, I’m hoping it will be here in time for him to start on Monday morning! Poor Tom had a visit to the vet today but he’s feeling a bit better tonight.

Hope you all have a good weekend and Ill no doubt post a final scan of Ebony on Monday.

Here at last are the first few stages of Ebony. Nick has just taken a photo for me this evening, his easel light is shining on it a little but hopefully it shows it well enough. Its a very strong image and I think its going to look stunning when its complete. Nick has added a hint of sky, trees and grass to give an overall impression of Ebony being outside in the field as in the photo, but not too intense as we don’t want to take away the focus from Ebony. Its an 18 x 14 oil on linen, hope you all like it and I will add another stage tomorrow!

We have had a lovely day today, it’s late now but I wanted to blog Brunos Portrait and then I will blog Ebony’s stages tomorrow. We have had a fun day today, starting off with lots of errands and then had lunch at a pretty seaside village in West Wales and then finished it off with a dog walk with friends and back to their house for a good old natter and glass of wine. Couldn’t have had a better day. We work so much in the studio sometimes, It’s difficult to really take a day off when we are home, as you can always be drawn into the studio to do a few things so it’s good to take a full day out and about.

Heres Brunos portrait and it’s ready to be taken to the framers this week. It will be framed in a lovely traditional wooden frame, it’s a 12 x 10, actually a little large now it’s mounted and will hopefully look great when all framed, I’ll take photos of course!

Here are the photos I have taken this afternoon of Sodas portrait framed. I think they have come out a little dark but hopefully it shows it off well. Tom was being so good today, he sat in his bed watching me the whole time while I took the photos, he is well trained in the house and knows not to move when I’m photographing in the studio. I just had to add this photo of him in there as he looks so happy : )

I will add Soda to the gallery and the framed portrait to the framing page, however I need to change things there a bit, now we aren’t offering pastels any longer the framing section needs a bit of an overhaul. It’s on my to do list. Will be adding Ebony’s portrait to the blog hopefully tomorrow and I have done a lovely portrait of a little dog called Bruno and I will add that to the blog too. Back tomorrow!
