Here are the first three stages of the 12 x 10 oil on linen canvas portrait of Dani and I will scan the final portrait in tomorrow. The last photo I took, was taken quite precariously, holding a very heavy slr camera in one hand held rather oddly with my finger only just over the button, and the paintbrush with my arm stretched out as far as I could in the other. Safe to say I wasn’t actually painting on the portrait at the time! Nick wasn’t here to take photos so its just me here this afternoon and I wanted to have a photo with the brush in. There is always a way around a problem : )

This weekend has to be the busiest on record. Some advice to anyone reading, deciding to set up a shopping cart on their website – please do not choose oscommerce! So many problems have arisen from using it. On Thursday our site was hacked via it, not the first time. Thankfully I have a wonderful hosting company who were onto it like a flash and by Friday afternoon everything was back to normal – apart from my shopping cart that was – it was toast!

I think quite often these things happen for a reason and it was a good thing. We have not been happy with the shopping cart system for the last 6 months or so and on Saturday Nick and I sat down and chatted about our options for a new payment system and in which direction we wanted to go. It has forced us to make some good business decisions and we are now in the process of setting up a whole new shopping cart.

I have implemented the first part of it on the website and its currently only integrated with paypal but the full system should be working by the end of the week. The new system has enabled me to add payment buttons around the site instead of just in one place which I what I had been wanting to do for a while. We now have them on the prints page, the gift voucher page and the payment page. I will be updating our other sites with them next week.

All the while this was happening – we had snow! We were a little snowed in, the postman only managed to get here this morning but Tom has absolutely loved every minute of it as you can see from the photos below. We didn’t have dog training this weekend as you can imagine. The training is higher up than us, so they had a good 4 inches, I don’t expect we will be going this weekend either.

Nick has now completed Stig’s portrait in oils on canvas. We have taken photos of this portrait, rather than scanning it, due to its size of 30 x 24 on linen canvas. Nick is really pleased with the outcome. All through this process he wanted to capture the feel of the day, the fresh salty air and the sea breeze. The haze and aerial perspective along the cliffs and I think he has achieved everything he set out to do – and hopefully he has accomplished the brief of the client too. We hope that you all like it!

I have taken a photo of Nick’s hand working on the details with a fine brush in oils on Stigs head.

This is Nicks next stage of Stigs Oil Portrait Painting and you can see that he is coming along really well. He has been working on the background and Stig in more detail trying to create areial perspective, a feeling of the day in the photograph as well as capturing Stig. Colours and feeling are very important here and I think that Nick is getting it just right.

Next Stage of Stigs Oil Portrait Painting

Nick has been working on this portrait for a number of days now and I have added three stages here for you to view. I will hopefully add another stage tomorrow as he’s a little further ahead from this stage. Its a very large oil painting 30 x 24 and i will hopefully take a photo of his hand working on the portrait to give you an idea of scale.

Having collected the framed portraits of Oliver and Tia this week, I delighted with them, they look fantastic. Our cleint asked if we could add a stand on the portraits so that the recipient could have the option of either standing them up or hanging them on the wall, which is a great idea. I am now able to offer this to all clients who are order smaller sized portraits. I have also added the new images to the mouldings framing page on the website.

Just as a side note, I was so pleased with Tom at dog training yesterday as we did the agility course the fastest out of our group. I’m not saying that we were at all elegant or did it all correctly, but we are coming on in leaps and bounds. He still has issues with other dogs, he is very scared and barks, but to see the improvement in him over the last few months is really good: )

Here are the final images of the oil portrait of Pippa and Cracker I have been working on. I’m really pleased with the results and am hoping the client will love it too. I have collected the two pencil drawings that Nick did of Oliver and Tia which have now been framed and ill blog those tomorrow as they look lovely.

This is the next stage of the 18 x 14 oil portrait I am working on and I hope to have a final scan by the weekend. I will most probably have one more stage to photograph before that though and I will blog it hopefully tomorrow. I don’t think the colours are showing as well as they are here in the studio so ill make your the final portrait is photographed under the photography lights as its a bit too large to scan.

I spoke to a lovely lady in Hong Kong today who emailed to ask if they could do a piece on Nick and myself for the South China Post. Im really hoping I get a copy of the article and if I do I will blog it : )

Next stage to Dog Portrait in Oils

Here’s the next stage of the oil portrait I am working on of Cracker and Pippa. I will be going back to do the details on both dogs now that I have completed this mid way stage. Its really lovely to paint this portrait as both dogs have such a happy look on their faces, I can image they are both wonderful dogs to be with.
